Journalism 133: Prof. Craig: Final Project Checklist

Final Project Checklist

Editing is all about attention to detail.  You will have until class time Thursday to finalize your edit of the story you will receive.  Please use the Track Changes function of Microsoft Word to show what you have changed.

You will have complete latitude in editing this story, meaning you can cut or add anything accurate or worthwhile in telling the story, but you will be held responsible for any mistakes.  You may contact your classmate who wrote the story with any questions, but please try to keep this to a minimum.

As this is an editing class, any errors introduced into the story during editing will severely harm your grade.

  • Double-check all names (any misspelled name is an automatic F grade)
  • Double-check job titles (don't assume anything)
  • Check all facts, and correct them if needed (any factual error costs you a letter grade)
  • Fix all style, grammar or spelling errors
  • Rewrite and/or reorganize material as you deem necessary
  • Add background information as you see fit
  • Do more interviews if you think they would help improve the story
  • If you have any doubts, recheck with the reporter or the original source.

If you have any questions along the way, let me know via email.
